Cumberland County Board of Education Names New Superintendent

Marvin Connelly Jr. has been chosen as the new superintendent of the Cumberland County School System.

  • Mr. Connelly is the chief of staff and strategic planner for Wake County Public Schools
  • Former paratrooper
  • Military intelligence officer for the 82nd Airborne Division
  • Began his teaching career as a teacher’s assistance and moved up the ranks
  • Graduated from N.C. State University (bachelor’s and two master’s) and doctorate from East Carolina University
  • Position will begin July 1, 2018
